Somes Island

I was lucky enough to be invited to Somes Island a few weeks back to help out on some research with fluttering shearwaters.

In our spare time myself and Thomas Burns got some much needed photography in, shooting New Zealand native geckos, Tuatara, Giant weta and Native birds.

New Zealand geckos are very hard to find in the wild as their numbers have been highly decimated by introduced animals such as cats and rats.

Somes Island is a predator free island so gecko and skink numbers are quite high. This made them relatively easy to find (although we did not find any of our target species - the Wellington Green Gecko).
Gear setup for these shots;

Canon 1dmk4
Canon 100mm macro
Canon 580EX2
